BCA syllabus for Bangalore City University is based on CBSC scheme that is Choice based Credit System SEP 2024. Unlike NEP, which had an extra 1 year for Honors, SEP is no longer offering this. It is now a regular 3 Year Degree program from 2024.

Discrete Structure – Mathematics
Unit 1 is Set Theory which explains Fundamentals of Set theory, Set Operations, Laws of Set Theory, Functions and its types
Unit 2 is Logic and Counting: Teaches Fundamentals of Logic, Propositional Logic, Logical Connectives along Truth Tables, etc
Unit 3 is Matrices teaches Basics of Matrix, Types of Matrices, Operations on Matrices and more
Unit 4 is Graph Theory: Introduction to Graphs. It covers representing and operating on graphs. The unit discusses different graphs like Euler Graph and Hamilton Graph. It also covers Trees and their applications.
PROBLEM SOLVING TECHNIQUE
Unit 1 : Introduction : Teaches Role of Algorithms in computing, Algorithms as a technology, analyzing
algorithms, Fundamental Algorithms: Exchanging the values of two variables, Counting, Summation of a set of numbers, Factorial computation, etc
Unit 2 covers various topics. These include an introduction to C, data types and operators, control statements, arrays, and functions. Pointers, one-dimensional arrays, multidimensional arrays, and command line arguments are also covered.
Unit 3 deals with Factoring Methods: Finding the square root of a number, the smallest Divisor of an integer, Array Techniques like Array order reversal, Array counting, Finding the maximum number in a set, etc
Unit 4 covers sorting. It includes sorting by selection, sorting by exchange, and sorting by insertion. Searching methods covered are Linear Search, Binary search, and Hash search. It also includes text processing and pattern searching.
COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE
Unit 1 covers Number Systems. It includes Decimal, Binary, Hexadecimal, and Octal Number System Conversions. The unit also covers Binary Arithmetic and Complements. Addition and subtraction of BCD is taught. Octal and Hexadecimal Arithmetic are also included. Further topics are Binary Codes, Decimal Codes, and Error detecting and correcting codes.
Unit 2 covers Combinational Circuits- Half Adder and Full Adder, Flip-Flops- SR Flip- Flop, D Flip-Flop, Digital Components: Integrated Circuits, Decoders-3-to-8-line decoder, NAND gate Decoder, Octal to Binary Encoder, etc
Unit 3 is Basic Computer Organization and Design. It deals with Instruction Codes, Computer Registers, and Computer Instructions. Timing and Control are also included. Additionally, the Instruction Cycle, Memory-Reference Instructions, and Input- Output Interrupt are covered. Design of Basic Computer, Design of Accumulator logic, etc.
Unit 4 covers an introduction to 8085 Assembly language programming. It includes the architecture of 8085 and pin configuration. The 8085-programming model and instruction classification are also covered. Instruction, data formats, and storage are discussed. Instruction classification of 8085 is based on word length and functions, as well as different operations.
Exam Pattern & Internal Assessment
Students have a Semester End Exam at each cycle of the syllabus. The exam will be a theory paper worth 80 marks. Internal Assessment marks will account for 20 making 100 Marks in Total.
Internal Assessment will be provided based on several components. These include Sessional Tests, Seminars, Presentations, and Case Studies. Additionally, Assignments and Project work will also be considered.
