Unit 1: INTRODUCTION TO PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  1. What is workforce diversity?
    Ans) Workforce diversity means similarities and differences among employees in terms of age, cultural background, race, religion, gender and other attributes.
  2. Give the meaning of People Management.
    Ans) People Management refers to the practice of recruiting, training, engaging and retaining employees to optimize their talent and maximize their productivity.
  3. Give any two difference between People Management and Human Resource Management

    Unit 2: GETTING WORK DONE & ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION
    1. What is retention?
      Ans) Retention is defined as the process by which a company ensures that its employees don’t quit their jobs.
    2. What is goal setting?
      Ans) Goal setting is the process of setting specific, measurable and role oriented objectives that employees work towards while at your company. Typically, employee goals are a collaborative effort between a manager and a direct report.

    3. What is prioritization of work?
      Ans) Prioritization of work means working on things in right order. Prioritization skills put tasks in the sequence that produces results quickly and efficiently. It helps to allocate time where it’s most needed.
    4. Give the meaning of performance management.
      Ans) Performance management is the process of ensuring that a set of activities and outputs meets an organization’s goals in an effective manner. Performance management can focus on the performance of the organization, a department, an employee or the processes in place to manage particular task.
    5. Define Performance management.
      Ans) The process of directing and supporting employees to work effectively and efficiently as possible in line with the needs of the organization.
    6. What is performance assessment?
      Ans) Performance assessments are the performance appraisals or reviews used to evaluate employee performance and productivity. They are usually done for compensation review, performance improvement, promotions, terminations, etc.
      Unit 3: BUILDING PEER NETWORK & ESSENTIALS OF COMMUNICATION
    1. What is networking?
      Ans) Networking is defined as goal-directed behavior which occurs both inside and outside of an organization, focused on creating, cultivating and utilizing interpersonal relationships.
    2. Give the meaning of peer networking.
      Ans) Peer-to-Peer networking is an effective medium of exchanging information, support and service. It works well in a wide array of similarly inclined groups like working mother, students, business leaders and so on.
    3. Give the meaning of communication.
      Ans) Communication is the process of exchanging information. It is sharing of ideas, opinions and emotions through written and spoken words.
    4. What is formal and informal communication?
      Ans) Formal Communication: is an exchange of official information between people within the same organization who are often at different levels within the organizational hierarchy.
      Informal Communication: is any type of communication that doesn’t take place using the formal methods or structures in a company.
    5. What is para-language?
      Ans) The ways in which people show what they mean other than by the words they use, for example by their tone of voice, or making sounds with the breath.
    6. What is grapevine?
      Ans) An unofficial, informal way of getting information by hearing it from someone who heard it from someone else.

      Unit 4: MOTIVATION
      1. What is motivation?
        Ans) The process of stimulating employees to do actions to accomplish the goals.
        Or
        Willingness to do something.
      2. Give the meaning of team work.
        Ans) To get together with another person, group, organization to do a job.
      3. What is team motivation?
        Ans) The process that a project manager goes through to persuade employees to give their best effort to a professional task. Not only should encourage their team they should keep the trust until the task is completed.
      4. What is positive motivation?
        Ans) Positive motivation is the process in which a manager attempts to influence the employees’ behavior in such a way that could enhance the courage and zeal towards the job. It is virtually a kind of technique to inspire subordinates.
      5. What is negative motivation?
        Ans) The act of forcing the staff members to work by holding out threats or punishments such as reprimands, disciplinary actions, demotion, loss of job, dismissal from the post, deduction of salary, group rejection. Any kind of deterioration may be included as negative motivation.
